The yard at The Devil’s Horsemen farm is busy but quiet. The team—who has been working together for years—is focused on the grind. They speak little. They muck out stalls, saddle and unsaddle the horses, wash, sweep and ride. The clopping of horses’ metal shoes on the cold wet ground, a stallion’s cry… The rustling of everyday commotion.
As the leading film-industry horse supplier in Europe, the stables at The Devil’s Horsemen hold over one hundred horses, and close by, a team who cares for them and keeps the farm running in all aspects. Far from the glamour of Hollywood, these images capture a glimpse into the lives of an eclectic group of people from various backgrounds and the animals they care for.
While isolating at The Devil’s Horsemen during a time of disorder and widespread uncertainty about the future, the farm was steadfast and remained seemingly unchanged in contrast. Documenting these people and their work in the quiet mundanity of the everyday became a type of shelter—a refuge from the unknown.
